Life changes; God is constant. But we must choose to follow Him.

Friendships

Friendships change. People change. Its a fact of life. It can hurt. It can hurt a lot, realizing that a friend we may have been close to in the past we hardly know anymore. Life changes and as people grow up, mature, graduate high school, get jobs, get married, have kids, people we used to talk to every single day we may go months, years without even thinking about. I'm kinda going through that right now. A close group of people I used to be tight with, are now people I barely know, and rarely talk with. Friendships are based off of common interests, common experiences because they bind us all together. Think about the relationship you have with your best friend, and "ex"-best friend, or your current group of friends. For my what binds my best friend and I together is she was there for me when I was going through a really tough time, even though she didn't "do" much just being there helped in many ways.

However, there is one friendship or relationship that will never go away. It may change, you may become closer to this person, or try to walk away from this person. But HE will never leave you. In Deuteronomy 31:6 it says "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." (NIV). No matter how far we try to get away from God its impossible. Jonah was in the belly of a whale for 3 days and still God was near. I don't know where else you could go to get further from God, but if God is able to be present in the belly of a whale than he can be anywhere. Whether we want God to be near or not is a completely different topic. The point is thought that God will always be our closest friend.

We can tell Him anything, we can tell Him our dreams, hopes, fears, and He will never tell anyone our secrets. When we are angry we can go to Him. I heard somewhere from someone (no clue who it was) but they said something like whenever we are angry enough to cuss go to God. He is strong enough to handle it. That's a strong statement. There are some pretty bad cuss words out there, and typically I wouldn't think of going to God and cussing. But the author makes a point. God created us, we can never surprise Him, or shock Him. He will always love us and be near to us.

So in the years, months, weeks, days to follow if you feel your friendships changing, or you realize you need to change your friends realize the constant in this ever changing world. Human friends may come and go, they will come and go, but God is always there.

Have a blessed evening,
LR
